AFM
About
The American Federation of Motorcyclists (AFM) is recognized as the oldest amateur motorcycle racing club in the USA, founded in 1954, with a stated mission of "making riders into champions." AFM organizes and sanctions official motorcycle road racing events, providing a structured pathway for riders to obtain competition licenses. The organization also facilitates participation by offering reciprocity to license holders from other racing organizations and provides associate memberships for those who wish to support the club without competing.
AFM caters to riders aspiring to transition into competitive motorcycle racing, specifically serving those who are ready for a higher level of track experience. Prospective novice racers are required to attend a New Racer School from one of AFM's approved trackday providers, which include Carters@TheTrack, Fun Track Dayz, Z2 Trackdays, and Pacific Track Time. Riders are strongly recommended to possess a consistent "A-Group" trackday pace and a predictable riding style before applying for a competition license. The organization supports new racers through a New Racer Orientation Guide, provides access to mentors, and offers technical information for motorcycle setup. Based on the locations of its approved trackday providers and board members, AFM's primary operations are focused within California.
